Backyard

The backyard is pretty deep (and there are even some spring flowers appearing!) The garage, which takes up part of the yard, definitely needs some work! There's no deck yet, but we plan to make the large dining room window into a sliding door walk-out to the backyard.

Before: Basement

The basement has one finished room, a cold storage room, a small laundry area and a utility room.

Before: Bedroom

There are three bedrooms upstairs.

Before: Bathroom

There's only one bathroom right now, but we plan to add a second in the basement.

Before: Kitchen

Here's the kitchen. It's in great shape so we plan to save the cabinets for our new laundry room or garage.

Before: Living and Dining Rooms

Here are some shots of the living room and dining room before the demolition.

Closing Day

After much anticipation, the day finally arrived! All the paperwork was finalized and we got the keys to our new house.

As soon as we pulled up to the house, we met a bunch of our new neighbours. Everyone is super friendly and welcoming. Hopefully they'll feel the same way once the renovations get under way!

We celebrated our first evening with pizza and champagne. Now the party's over and it's time to start focusing on all the hard work ahead of us!

The One

After a second unsuccessful attempt at making an offer, we were starting to get pretty discouraged. We thought this was supposed to be a buyer's market! Then we went to see yet another house. We were driving home, contemplating the house, when we turned down a street that we'd never been on. There it was. "House for sale by owner." We called the number on the sign. We saw the house and the rest is history!

The House Hunt

When we started searching for our first home, we had no idea how much work it would be! It felt like we'd seen hundreds of houses. After endless weekends of open houses, we finally felt ready to make our first offer. And then we lost the house! Everyone told us that "it wasn't meant to be" or "there will be more houses in the spring" but we still felt pretty disappointed. We knew we had to keep searching. And so we did...
