Stairs: Before and After

To update the look of the stairs, we decided to re-stain the stair treads and banister in the same colour we stained the upstairs hardwood floors.  We chose to paint to the risers and spindles white.

The original walls in the hallway and stairwell were stucco.  We replaced them with new drywall, which really helped make the space look more modern.  We hung some coat hooks at the bottom of the stairs and added a small bench where we can store some shoes.

You have done an incredible job!!! They look brand new!

Doing our stairs is on the 'list' so I will have to remember your project for inspiration!

Do you find them slippery without a runner?

Thanks for the kind words! We're really happy with how the stairs turned out.

They can be a bit slippery and we definitely plan to get a runner. We just haven't found exactly what we want yet.

Looks good.
I think your walls were actually textured plaster.
