Upstairs Bathroom Plans

We’ve chosen all our finishes for the upstairs bathroom and work will be starting this week. In the shower, we replaced the octagon window and built a shelf into the wall. We decided to keep the original cast iron tub, so we’re having it refinished.

IMG_2300We both really like glass mosaic tiles, so we wanted to incorporate them into this bathroom. Here is the glass tile we chose:

IMG_2355Our plan is to tile the three walls surrounding the tub with 3x6” white subway tiles, with an accent strip of the glass mosaic tiles midway up the wall. The remaining walls will be painted gray. For the floors, we selected 2” hexagons in white carrara marble. Here is a rough idea of what we’re planning for the tiles:

The bathroom is pretty tiny and there wasn’t any way to change the layout to give us more space. To maximize our space, we searched for a small vanity that would give us a bit of counter space and storage, without sticking out too far into the middle of the bathroom. We finally found one we love from TUBS. It will allow us to avoid walking into a sharp corner when we enter the bathroom.

Nice choices. Figuring out these small bathrooms is tough work! If there's room in the budget, I highly recommended getting radiant floor heating. It makes our tiny bath feel luxurious.

I love your choice of tiles! We also have a tight squeeze in our upstairs bath, but we are living with our vintage tile and old vanity (we'll paint it) until we can make a big change in the future. I like reading about all your projects, very nice recaps! I will be back.

You mean it will allow YOU to avoid walking into a sharp corner...I'm sure Dave doesn't walk into things the way we do! =)

Love the look of ALL of it!

So funny. Honey and I were looking at tile ideas yesterday for our kitchen and we liked a very similar blue and gray mosaic for our backsplash. Great minds think alike.

My cousin has a small powder room on his main floor and he used a similar sink and it's true, no one has walked into it.:P

Can't wait to see the finish project. Your colour scheme will make the bathroom look larger and brighter while still having some accent colour detail.

Nice choice in tiles. we did a similar tile, except it was shades of green and the subway tile was wider. It'll look amazing!
